Welcome to Balatonföldvár, one of the prettiest and most organized towns in the South Balaton region.
Our settlement has a history that is thousands of years old. It was inhabited as early as the Celtic period and in fact was named after the motte-and-bailey (i.e. földvár) built during this period.
The town became of real significance during the late 1800's and early 1900’s however. It was a popular holiday resort of the aristocracy, the dukes as well as the higher circles of the military and the authorities. The settlement is a resort traditionally favored by those wishing to have a tranquil family time.
Lake Balaton is rather shallow here and deepens gradually, which makes it an ideal holiday destination for families with small children.
However, there are plenty of sport opportunities for those wishing to have more active holiday too, such as windsurfing, sailing, fishing, boat rides, and beach volley ball, tennis, cycling and skating or sledging in the winter. This wide selection of offers also entails cultural and sport events (festivals, theater, classical and popular concerts, exhibitions as well as Hungarian and international sailing races).
Our town's hospitality is also demonstrated by the fact that animators work at our free beaches to make sure you have a good time.
