Balatonföldvár Port
Rating
The port - opened in 1905 - is found at the end of the Kvassay promenade. It has been added to and redone a number of occasions since its first offical opening. It is currently one of the largest sailing ports around the Balaton.
On the western side of the pier is the 102 m long Ferro concerte bridge, which is the country's only multi-supported footbridge (a listed industrial structure).
If we keep walking towards the Eastern pier , we can see Jenő Kvassay's memorial erected in 1929.
The Pigeon Island was built out of the materials formed during the sweeping of the basin when the port was built.
Near the entrance of the port we find the Balaton Casino wich was built in 1903. It were not designed for the general public, only for a closed social group (approximately 6-800 members). During the reform era it was the center of social life, currently it is privately owned.
The Spartacus Sailing Club and the Balatonföldvári Watersports and Sailing Association also operates in the port area. As a result, more competition held here, such as the Dragon Boat Race, the FISTER Cup and the international Choco Cup for children.
At the entrance several dining options awaits us. The Marina Buffet's gyros and handmade hamburgers are legendary, in the Kárpáti ice cream parlor we can taste 2015's Ice Cream of Balaton (Balaton fagyija), but if you want to taste a typical hungarian fast food ask for a "Lángos" [langosh] in the Fapuma Buffet.
