Kötcse
Gentry country-houses, school museum, good wine, nice view of the Lake Balaton, preserved traditions, great hospitality – this is Kötcse. This settlement is located 10 km far from the south shore of Lake Balaton in the hilly area of Outer-Somogy. This small village is famous of its wine.
Here is one of the highest geographical points in the region called Csillagó-hegy. From here you can have a nice view to the Lake Balaton. It has been inhabited from the ancient times. Its name is mentioned first in 1229 in a document issued by King Endre the Second. When German people were settled here made a big change for the village life. Today there is only one German origin feast left what is celebrated in Kötcse: the Kerbájt (Kichweich). It is the anniversary of consecration of the church. Due to the German colonists grape and wine culture has developed much in this district. There are good grape varieties grown in the loess soil providing wines with excellent quality. The wine cellars with their atmosphere reminding for the ancient times offer you good tastes.
